CD Music Exploration – Week #1

I’ve been posting a new CD each day on Facebook as part of my exploration of my personal CD music library. Here I am memorializing what I’ve done so far.

Listened to Béla Fleck and the Flecktones Flight of the Cosmic Hippo on the way to work today. Any other Bela and Flecktones fans amongst my FB friends?

I’ve listened every time I’ve been in the car today. Just about finished entire CD (and for those that don’t know, that’s 3 trips thus far since none of them is very far).

Day 2 of exploring my CD collection. Finished Flight of the Cosmic Hippo yesterday so today I listened to Fiona Apple’s Tidal. Still very fresh more than 15 years later.

Day 3 of exploring my CD collection is The Jayhawks “Rainy Day Music”. I loved this CD when it came out and I still think it’s perfect. There were so many great CDs that year (IMNSHO). Had the pleasure of seeing The Jayhawks in 2003 at the 9:30 Club opening for Lucinda Williams. Awesome show. They split up right after that but I’ve heard they are back together. (BTW all of the CDs I’m exploring were pre-selected on Sunday for the week.)

What will tomorrow’s CD exploration be? Tune in tomorrow. I’m seriously contemplating a CD that came out in 1994 from a band I’ve seen twice — once in 2000 and once with my dear friends Sharon and Andy while they were visiting from England, I think in 2009. (I’m having great fun with this.)

So today’s CD exploration is Live’s Throwing Copper. I’ve always had mixed feelings about Live musically but this CD I’ve always enjoyed. I’ve seen Live twice as I said in a previous post, once in September of 2000 at Merriweather Post Pavillion and again at Harry Grove Stadium in Frederick Maryland, both times double headlining with Counting Crows. I was there for CC both times but Live impressed me at Merriweather. This CD is from 1994 and put Live on the map.

So I’m still listening to Live’s Throwing Copper cos I didn’t drive as much yesterday and today I’m stuck at my desk listening to a webinar on accounting and financial statements. BUT for tomorrow I will have a special treat for my lovely friend Robin M Braithwaite. A CD that came out in 1995 by a 4-man band called “neo-traditional country” by Wikipedia. We have a mutual love of their lead singer. His voice is beyond wonderful. He’s put out some solos as well.

Good day my darlings!

Sitting on the back porch listening to some new downloads including new Robert Plant, Tom Petty and Nickel Creek. I’m using this nifty new toy that I bought at BK Office Supply (Thanks Mark Kelly).

So music CD exploration today is in honor of the lovely Robin M Braithwaite, Music for All Occasions by The Mavericks and the dulcet tones of Raul Malo whose voice is swoon worthy. MFAO came out in 1995 and each song is still fabulous. Got my ticket to see them at The State Theater in Falls Church in November! Excited!

CD collection exploration week #1 ended with finishing The Mavericks Music for All Occasions. For next week I have selected some CDs that are newer, not an easy task since I don’t buy so many CDs anymore. I tend to download instead and often I don’t download entire CDs as much as select certain songs. I’ve remarked to myself (yes I DO talk to myself) that it’s like being 6 years old again and going to the store to buy 45s. This weekend I’ve been exploring a new CD that I DID download, Nickel Creek’s new CD (yes, they are back together!!!! and on tour!!!!). It’s called A Dotted Line and is as good as any they have done. Well worth the wait of years. I last saw them in July 2004 at the Whitaker Center in Harrisburg, PA, a lovely venue BTW. I will be seeing them this summer. Exciting!!
